Turzai, Mizgorski Secure State Grant for Pine-Richland School District
HARRISBURG – Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) today announced that he and Rep. Lori Mizgorski (R-Allegheny) obtained a state grant for field work at Pine-Richland High School.

The grant is made possible through the Gaming Economic Development Fund (GEDF), which funds community projects in Allegheny County through a tax assessed on slot games in casinos. Votes by two separate entities are needed to finalize these grants.

“We are pleased to report that Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County (RAAC) voted to approve this $250,000 grant at its scheduled meeting on Friday, Oct. 25, and the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) voted to approve it at its scheduled meeting today,” Turzai said.

The grant will be used toward the installation of a synthetic-turf athletic playing surface and lights at the Pine-Richland High School. This project converts an existing grass playfield into a synthetic surface field with lights.

Presently, multiple teams struggle to garner necessary practice and play time due to wet field conditions and lack of lighting. This project will provide a regulation-sized play area with a synthetic surface and field lighting. The project also adds additional sidewalks and a 10-foot-high fence to the fields. The new surface will allow teams to play in any weather conditions. Lighting will expand the amount of time for field availability.

“This is great news for the Pine-Richland School District,” said Mizgorski. “Having this new synthetic turf will make the field safer and better suited for the weather, for students, athletes, marching band and all those who utilize the field year-round.”
