– Rep. Lori Mizgorski (R-Allegheny) was assigned to serve on four House committees for the 2019-20 legislative session: Human Services, Labor and Industry, Local Government and Urban Affairs.
“I am very excited to be able to serve on these committees,” said Mizgorski. “These committee assignments will provide many opportunities for me to focus on issues important to our district, dealing with legislation related to municipality and local government, economic and urban development, mental health services and more.”
The Human Services Committee has oversight of issues within the Department of Human Services and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs. Among the issues this committee has dealt with in the past include legislation to address the heroin and opioid crisis, providing help and resources to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, and with those who need mental health services and drug and alcohol treatment.
The Labor and Industry Committee focuses on issues impacting jobs across the state. This committee deals with issues such as unemployment compensation, job training, child labor laws, workers’ compensation and the Prevailing Wage Act.
The Local Government Committee reviews bills that would amend the municipal codes by which local governments operate. This would include legislation related to local government purchases, real estate assessment policies and statewide pensions for municipal police officers.
The Urban Affairs Committee reviews legislation that affects the state’s largest cities including housing; urban redevelopment, economic development, land use planning and zoning, growth management, and infrastructure financing.
“My background and experience with local government and economic development gives me insight into the issues with which these committees will be dealing,” continued Mizgorski. “I am eager to get to work to address the concerns and challenges facing our Commonwealth and the 30th District.”
